Helpful Tips for Dental Emergencies
Below you will find some helpful tips if you have had an accident or are in pain:
Toothache
Rinse out your mouth using warm water, not cold, and gently floss to remove any food particles. You can apply a cold compress to the area if there is any swelling.
A lost filling
You can create a temporary seal for the tooth using sugarless gum or an over-the-counter dental repair cement from your local drugstore.
Dental abscess
Call our office immediately. Dental abscesses can lead to serious infection if untreated. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water, using ½ teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of water. Repeat as needed.
A loose crown
Crowns can sometimes be temporarily repaired at home. You will need to prepare the inside of the crown with toothpaste, denture adhesive or an over-the-counter dental cement. Then, carefully try to slip the crown back over your tooth. You should come into the office as soon as possible so the doctor can properly affix your crown.
